Earlier this month Premier Doug Ford announced his new cabinet. OMCA welcomes Neil Lumsden MPP for Hamilton East—Stoney Creek as the new Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport and welcomes back Caroline Mulroney as the reappointed Minister of Transportation and Francophone Affairs. We like to also recognize the reappointment of Monte McNaughton, who returns as the Minister of Labour, Training, and Skills Development in an expanded role which includes the immigration file.
OMCA looks forward to meeting with Ministers Lumsden, Mulroney and McNaughton to help address issues related to our member’s recovery, growth and prosperity. OMCA would like to recognize and thank Lisa MacLeod MPP and former Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport for her support for our members during a very difficult period in our industries history.
In June the association had the opportunity to meet directly with Federal MP Vance Badawey, Senator Karen Sorensen and the Minister of Transport of Canada, Omar Alghabra. On behalf of our members, we continue to advocate and educate government officials on our industry and the policy measures needed to support recovery and growth.
OMCA has submitted our recommendations for the renewal of the Federal Tourism Growth Strategy. In May the government of Canada launched a public consultation where Minister Boissonneault is working with the tourism sector, provincial and territorial counterparts, and Indigenous tourism partners to renew the strategy and set a new course for recovery, investment and stability. OMCA is encouraging members to align with our advocacy asks and submit your own recommendations to the government.
